Kubana’s 2026–2028 Strategic Plan

Kubana’s 2026–2028 plan centers one goal: nurture the whole child so immigrant and refugee scholars can learn, lead, and reach their potential. The plan was shaped around family voice, clear outcomes, and the capacity needed to sustain the work.

Four integrated pillars

  • Language, academic, and learning skills.

  • School-system knowledge for parents and caregivers.

  • Family and individual support, including well-being and belonging.

  • Program sustainability through volunteers, fundraising, partnerships, and strong systems.

How progress will be measured

Kubana will track participation, academic progress, digital skills, family stability, confidence, and belonging. Quarterly check-ins, mid-year reviews, annual evaluation, and community listening will guide program changes.

The first year focuses on core tutoring, parent workshops, school partnerships, technology skills, social-emotional learning, and basic-needs referrals. Later phases expand K–2 learning, parent English classes, transportation, field trips, mentoring, and a documented model for growth.

Water Project Progress

Work is progressing on Kubana’s water project. These September photos, shared by founder and executive director Prosper Ruberwa, document construction from the stone foundation and concrete base to the brick enclosure around a water storage tank. 2025: Learning in Seattle and Nakivale

In 2025, Kubana supported more than 110 students through the Nakivale School Project and ten students in a Seattle after-school pilot. Both programs paired academic learning with mentorship, family engagement, and practical resources. Nakivale School ProjectFour classrooms and a school office were in use.Two classrooms and a six-room sanitation facility were constructed during the year.Students received books, and school staff and parents met regularly with Kubana.Seattle after-school pilotTen students in grades 3–12 attended regularly from September through December.Six consistent volunteers supported two tutoring sessions each week.The fall term included 24 instructional sessions.Looking ahead Kubana plans to expand after-school learning, add digital literacy, leadership, and life-skills courses, grow mentoring partnerships, finish school facilities in Nakivale, and recruit more local teachers.

How Kubana Connects Learning, Family, and Belonging

Immigrant and refugee scholars often face connected barriers: language development, unfamiliar school systems, cultural adjustment, family stress, and social isolation. Kubana responds with connected support rather than a single service. The pathway When scholars participate consistently in culturally responsive tutoring, mentoring, enrichment, and social-emotional learning—and families are engaged as school partners—they gain academic support, caring relationships, and identity-affirming experiences.
